Letterpress Greeting Card

“You are Probably the Coolest Person I know”

***

Fresh off the presses! Please enjoy   these fun Any Time Cards! Each card was made on an antique Letterpress Machine at the Buffalo  Book Arts Center in downtown Buffalo, NY! I personally set all of the type in one of their Letterpress Classes.

What an amazing time! These cards are a very limited edition available only in my Etsy Shop.

Fonts used are Cooper Black in several sizes. A unique very 1970’s looking glyph and  manicules  were used as well.  Black ink on white cardstock or  craft-colored stock.

Letterpress Class at the Book Arts Center

I found a new favorite place in town: The Western New York Book Arts Center. They are a non-profit that focuses in sharing the age-old traditions of letterpress printing, screen printing, and other traditional printing methods. They also have bookbinding classes and oh so much more!

I signed up to take their Letterpress I class the other day.

Even their bathroom had some great artwork and typography! Check out this great print with all of the letters and glyphs for Morgans font.

Letterpress Class WNYBAC

Check out their lovely wooden type. Can you see the variations in the letters? The different wood types? Beautiful.

Letterpress Class WNYBAC

Above are some of their glyphs and symbols in lead type. These are for letterpress, and are made from lead. They are delicate and, apparently, can be dented if dropped…so you have to be very careful with them! Obviously they have an abundance of fonts in various shapes and sizes. But it is so overwhelming to see all of the parts and pieces that go into making a printed piece.

The even have many, many vintage books and supplies nestled comfortably on their shelves.

Feeling Crabby

I’m not sure if you remember, but we have pet hermit crabs! They are a surprisingly fun little pet. They are relatively easy to take care for and get along well with other crabs (for the most part).  Sometimes they will fight with each other over shells, but otherwise they get along together well!2015-11-05-22-48-03

This drawing was made with pen and ink, Prismacolor and Copic Markers, and chalk markers for the opaque white.

Rudolph the THREAD Nosed Reindeer

You know Dasher and Dancer, and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid, and Donner and Blitzen.
But do you recall, the most famous reindeer of all? It’s Rudolph, the THREAD-nosed reindeer!

I made this fun Christmas decoration the other day and I’ve been dying to share it ever since. This is a decorative embroidery I made using custom PAINT BY NUMBER FABRIC. The fabric was custom made using vintage paint by number artwork, which I then placed in a faux-bois embroidery hoop. The snowflake and Red-Nose embroidery was hand-applied and the whole piece is finished in the back to make the artwork more durable and to prevent any threads from coming loose.

The perfect addition to any Christmas decor. Just the right amount of Christmas and Kitsch to really make a place. A fun take on paint by number in a more manageable size. This is a Pink Toe Press EXCLUSIVE. You won’t find this anywhere other than the Pink Toe Press Etsy shop.

The Ampersand makes its appearance

ptp_photo_ampman1_square

Have I told you how much I love the ampersand? It’s true. It’s my favorite typographic element.

I thought to take my love for the ampersand and turn it into an assortment of buttons. That way I can take an ampersand with me wherever I go. These lovely new buttons are fresh off the press and many more are to come. Available now in Pink Toe Press’ Etsy shop. They are the perfect addiction to a jacket, book bag, or more. They are also available as MAGNETS! Huzzah!

This Year’s Christmas Card

Every year, around June or July, I have the brilliant idea to get my Christmas Cards and Christmas merchandizing plans together for Pink Toe Press. Last year I had a fairly legitimate excuse to not get any of that done (see: cross-country move in the middle of December). This year I got something together a little later in the game than I would have hoped. But better late than never, right?

ptp_card_christmas_cheer_single1

I really enjoy the movie Elf and I wanted to make a card that features the famous quote from Will Ferrel’s character Buddy: The best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear. My brother and I always say this to each other around the holidays, so I thought this would be perfect.

I thought this would be a nice card to simply colored with several bold fonts. I am also planning on making this into larger prints if the interest is there.

ptp_card_xmascheer3pk_1I hope you like the way they came out. They are going to be my personal greeting card this holiday season. But feel free to pick up a set to send out yourself. They are available in my Etsy Shop.

Get two and keep one for yourself! They make great desk decorations too!

Each Incredible “Pink Tone” Pink Toe Press Color Puzzle Cube Is hand-adorned with custom color swatch stickers. Each color was created and named by Yours Truly. While inspired by popular paint chips, these colors do not correspond to any paints, dyes, or existing colors available on the market. Each color was custom made by me for these Puzzle Cubes (Some colors are available as buttons in the Pink Toe Press Etsy Shop). Each color was printed onto a sticker which was hand-placed on each square of each cube. Puzzle cube bases come pre-assembled and are made from a hard plastic.

Tired of having your nose stuck in a book (ouch!)? Sick of playing games with angry avifauna? The Incredible “Pink Tone” Pink Toe Press Color Puzzle Cube is your solution. Small enough to toss into a book-bag or carry-on bag, this fun activity requires no batteries, no headphones, and you don’t need a 20-page rule book to play. Just twist and turn and have fun!

New Business Cards for Pink Toe Press

I recently gave Pink Toe Press‘ business cards a bit of an overhaul. If you remember from before, the old cards were very detailed and had an illustration of the Pink Toe Press “coat of arms”.

Pink Toe Press Shop

The old design: GREAT for postcards, a little too detailed for business cards.

I wanted to give the business cards a bright bold look with simple colors that lend themselves well to the shapes and colors in the Pink Toe Press logo. I chose this design that not only features the logo but makes sure you know each item coming from Pink Toe Press is hand made.

The NEW printed business cards. How lovely!

I prefer vertical business cards. Vertical is sometimes a risky choice, but I knew I could make it work for this project. I chose to use one of my new favorite fonts: Lulo for much of the text on the card. As this is a small canvas, I wanted the most legible, aesthetically pleasing font I could muster. Functionally, I wanted to be sure to include the social media information on the card, but did not want to be obtuse about it. I included that information in pink under where it says “buttons/cards/totes”.

I printed the cards at home using our Cannon 9000 Mark II printer (love that thing!) and printed them on heavy-stock bristol paper. Because of this, they are thicker than standard business cards and are matte on the back for writing down notes or other pertinent information. They are so pretty, I though they could even be used as tags for tote bags in a pinch!

I feel this project was a success. What do you think?

In celebration of Dia De Los Muertos, I have added new Calavera greeting cards to my Etsy Shop! They are available in a number of awesome colors and comes with its own envelope. Each card is cut and hand-folded, and is made from my original illustration.
