Today Will be a Good Day: Illustration

Hello Friday!

Do you have anything fun planned for the weekend? I hope to go to the park and sketch in the sunshine for a while. I started out the day with a delicious iced coffee (with whipped cream and sprinkles, of course) AND an illustration.

Today will be a good day, indeed.

This typographic  illustration was hand lettered with pen and ink. I used Copic Markers, Prismacolors, gold Sharpie, and chalk markers.

Save the Dates

I was asked to design Save the Dates for digital distribution (the bride-to-be wanted to email them to friends and loved ones so that she can spend more money on the wedding invitations). After a few sketches, she approved this design and layout:

I created this design that features Peonies, a favorite flower of the couple.

The design was created using original floral illustrations and existing fonts.

My Funny Valentine

I’m always looking for fun, unique greeting card ideas. I came up with this one a while ago, but thought this was as good a time as any to share it with you! It is inspired by the TV show Arrested Development.

my funny valentine cardThis design was styled to look like embroideries of days gone by.

This is a fun, silly card to give to a VALENTINE, GAL-entine, or someone who loves Arrested Development.  It is available in my etsy shop, printed on white or craft paper.

Feliz Dia De Los Muertos

ptp_calavera_card1

In celebration of Dia De Los Muertos, I have added new Calavera greeting cards to my Etsy Shop! They are available in a number of awesome colors and comes with its own envelope. Each card is cut and hand-folded, and is made from my original illustration. They are great for Halloween or Day of the Dead, but could be used any time of year for yourself or to send to your spooky friends!

Feliz Dia De Los Muertos

calavera tote bagHappy “Dia De Los Muertos”, Everyone!

Today we celebrate the “Day of the Dead” with a new tote bag from Pink Toe Press! This bag was designed by Yours Truly and was hand-printed in Burbank, CA. This new bag design is currently available at Rocket Fizz Burbank and in my Etsy shop! This bag is a great tote bag for Day of the Dead, of course, but the design is great for using all year round! Bring a bag to market for your groceries or fill it with books for class. The bag itself measures 13 inches by 13 inches and is made from durable cotton canvas, so you can tote just about anything in this great Calavera Tote Bag!

Sneak Peek of New Tote Bag Design

Boo!

calavera tote bagJust in time for October, this new tote bag is great for the upcoming season!!!

Made from an original illustration, this design is printed on cotton canvas tote bags. Can you guess the design? That’s right! It’s a Calavera from Dia De Los Muertos, or a Mexican Sugar Skull from “Day of the Dead”. I hand-drew the design and processed it in to a silk screen. More photos to come, and perhaps more colors too?

Calavera Dog

Calaveras, or Sugar Skulls, are a mainstay of the holiday Dia De Los Muertos. Molded from sugar, traditional Calaveras represent the sweetness of life and the sadness of death. I’ve always loved and been fascinated by this holiday ever since I was young. My Spanish teacher in primary school was raised in Mexico, and she introduced us to the holiday and its traditions.

Living in Southern California, I really enjoy visiting Olvera Street during the Dia De Los Muertos celebration. It’s something I look forward to every year. Death is a sad part of life, but I think that celebrating someone’s life is a good way to start when mourning someone’s death. This Calavera is of a dog’s skull. I was inspired of the memory of our beloved family dog who passed away not too long ago. Drawn using markers and pens, this drawing is nice and colorful. I think this would make a lovely card or tattoo design. Or both! Who knows, maybe I’ll Celebrate Dia De Los Muertos in style by getting this awesome tattoo.

Terrarium

I noticed that this little guy was shown in one of my earlier posts, but I hadn’t shared him with y’all yet. So here you go!

This is Terrarium that I made not too long ago. It is made with eco-Felt, wool felt balls, embroidery thread, ribbon, cotton gingham, and some acrylic paint. The jar is a recycled/up-cycled jar with tiny handles on the sides. It’s a really lovely piece that is actually for sale at the Handmade Galleries in LA.  This is one of my favorite terrariums to date. It’s nice and big and is quite lovely. Each flower (felt ball) is hand embroidered with painstaking detail and is nestled amongst leaves of grass. There are three unique flowers inside the terrarium as well as one small flower on the outside of the terrarium (on the bow). Green grass is even painted on the bottom of the jar to give it even more dimension.

I hope you like this piece as much as I do.

Love Birds Painting Pt.1

Well, it seems that painting on wood is my new favorite thing. It’s wonderful fun. This “Love Birds” piece will be part  of the “Piece Riot” show coming up next week. This piece measures 2 feet by 2 feet and is painted on a lovely birch panel. Right now, I’d say this piece is about 80 percent done, so stay tuned to see the final piece and for several more paintings on wood panel.

Please stop by the “Piece Riot” show the 14th, 15th, 16th here in Burbank! I’d love to have you see my work in person instead of on a screen.
