Terrarium

I noticed that this little guy was shown in one of my earlier posts, but I hadn’t shared him with y’all yet. So here you go!

This is Terrarium that I made not too long ago. It is made with eco-Felt, wool felt balls, embroidery thread, ribbon, cotton gingham, and some acrylic paint. The jar is a recycled/up-cycled jar with tiny handles on the sides. It’s a really lovely piece that is actually for sale at the Handmade Galleries in LA.  This is one of my favorite terrariums to date. It’s nice and big and is quite lovely. Each flower (felt ball) is hand embroidered with painstaking detail and is nestled amongst leaves of grass. There are three unique flowers inside the terrarium as well as one small flower on the outside of the terrarium (on the bow). Green grass is even painted on the bottom of the jar to give it even more dimension.

I hope you like this piece as much as I do.

Happy Chinese New Year

I’m sure you’ve  heard it’s the year of the Dragon! Happy Lunar New Year!

This lunar new year started off with a rainy day here in So Cal, but I hear that water is lucky for dragons…besides we needed the rain. Here’s to the best of luck and good fortune to you in this lucky Dragon year!

Owl Clock Painting

Here is the newest painting that I’ve created for the piece riot art show! This one is based off of a clock that my first boss used to have. I always loved looking at that clock.

I am thinking I may even turn it into a real clock if I have the time!

New Artwork: Sneak Peek 1

I know I mentioned the “Piece Riot” art show the other day, and I would like to share one piece I’ve been working on for the show.

I think it’s a fun way to have some FUNctional artwork in your home. I’ve made a small chalkboard AND art piece that has a small dragon to the side. I think I’ll be adding a small cloud at the top or bottom opposite the dragon…but we’ll see. You can write on the black parts with chalk!

I plan on finishing the back and putting a small “hook” of ribbon on the back from which to hang the piece. It can be used as a little message board OR just to hang as art. Wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth. Paper towells will leave a little bit of paper pieces when used to clean the surface.

Mural Project Update

I’ve fallen a bit behind in the polls for the 1881 Project’s Mural Contest but I won’t let that get me down…

I’d like to share some  more pictures of my work for the project, both during the process and the final piece. I’m very pleased with my work, and I think it’s a great piece. I think that they needed someone to participate whose work is a little bit on the “lighter” side, and I’m glad they picked me! I’m also pleased that I got to represent lady artists for the competition as well.

Whether I win the competition or not, I’m happy I participated. Please enjoy these photographs taken by me and my Dear Boyfriend, who was kind enough to take a break from his busy weekend and hang out with me throughout most of the competition.

If you haven’t already voted for my piece, please visit the VOTING PAGE for the 1881 Project. I would greatly appreciate your vote!

**Voting has now ended. Thank you all for your support!

VOTE FOR ME!

Please VOTE FOR ME!

If you haven’t heard, I recently painted a mural for a Live-Art Competition in Los Angeles over the weekend of September 23 and 24. I created a lovely little well not-so-little, painting that depicts Hollywood Boulevard on Parade. It is a fun and playful piece that captures both my personal style, and what I always imagined Hollywood to be like. If you’ve never been to Hollywood, it’s a little different than what I imagined, but it does always feel like a parade has just ended. There is always music playing, food cooking, and there is always someone wearing a costume or handing out balloons. I think that my piece captures the idea of Hollywood very well, just without any of the copyrighted characters that seem to spend their time there.

Here’s how to vote:

More information is available on the 1881 Project website, but this is a competition for the community of Los Angeles AND the WORLD to participate in the outcome of this competition. I was picked along with 8 artists to paint an individual mural inspired by one of “Los Angeles’ Famous Boulevards”, and we each chose very different subject matter, mediums, and boulevards. If you like my piece, I would really appreciate your vote! You can vote with your email address OR through Facebook. If artistic democracy wasn’t reason enough to vote, each voter is entered to win an ipad 2.

Many Thanks,
