New Accessories in Etsy Shop: Sailor Moon Bows

The newest addition to Pink Toe Press is inspired by the first Anime that I watched obsessively often in my youth: Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon has just celebrated its 20th anniversary AND Toei Animation released an newly animated version of Sailor Moon called Sailor Moon Crystal that very closely follows the Manga storyline.

I recently started making cute hair bows. The bows are made using origami folding techniques and cotton fabrics, and are unique to Pink Toe Press. They are available in several sizes and many are made with vintage fabrics. Perfect for young and old, they are a lovely and unique accessory.

A NEW addition to this line of hair bows is a “brooch” in the center styled after the costumes of Sailor Moon and her friends the Sailor Senshi.

The brooch designs are created by yours truly. This brooch was inspired by Sailor Moon’s locket from the original anime. I changed the design a little bit so that it would be clear at the 1-inch size. The brooches are made using my 1-inch professional button maker and are secured with a dab of glue. More designs are coming soon. I’ve even got some requests!

They would make a lovely gift for the Sailor Moon fan in your life. They could also be a fun cosplay accessory. The larger-sized red bows would be great for a Sailor V or Sailor Venus costume!

While my brooches are currently offered with Alligator Clip backings, I may make them able to attach to cat collars for the little Luna or Artemis in your life…

Kawaii Folded Fabric Hair Bows

Origami folded hair bowA classic red bow looks good with any hair color

Just in time for Valentine’s Day: Kawaii hair bows made from folded fabric. These are the perfect gift for ladies (or guys) who could use a fun new accessory.

For the last decade, I’ve had short hair. I started growing my hair out last year and it is now finally to the length where I can do a bit of an up-do. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find any accessories that fit my style and color preferences. So I made these cute bows to fill that gap!

They are made from cotton fabric that I prepare and fold into the bow shape. They are then carefully pressed and secured to a felt backing. Each bow has an alligator clasp in the back and is quite durable despite its lovely appearance. There are currently two sizes available with an assortments of colors and patterns. Many of the patterned fabrics are from my collection of vintage fabrics, so there are limited quantities.

The bows clip easily into any style hair. I like putting one on a ponytail, but you could use them in pigtails, short hair, long hair…the possibilities are endless! Check out Pink Toe Press for more information and to order one of your own!

Pop-Up Valentine’s Day Heart Cards

Usually I am not someone who makes something that is for a specific holiday or event… I do make exceptions, though. I think that these handmade pop-up cards would make lovely valentines. Inspired by computer graphics, 8-bit video games, and the fun I always had with pop-up books and cards, these little cards are a refreshing change from mass-produced, store-bought cards.

Tell someone “I <3 U” with one of these fun cards!

I’ve always liked pop-up cards and have had an interest in making them ever since (years ago) my friend Katie had a birthday party and her mother (an artist and art teacher) taught us how to make very simple pop-ups. As someone who has a collection of pop-up books, a knack for origami and paper-crafting, and a love of pixel art, you’d think I would have gotten around to making these sooner.

Each envelope is filled with (handmade) confetti. A nice touch.

I hand cut each card from paper and carefully folded each one, each card also has a handmade envelope. I think these would make lovely cards any time of the year (not just on Valentine’s Day). They’d be a great card for the gamer or computer whiz in your life.  *I’m working on other pop-up designs… I’ll keep you posted!
